Hudson Hills Golf Course
Modern county municipal
Hudson Hills is the grown-up depth play. It is not trying to be Bethpage or Pound Ridge. It is a good public round when Westchester is part of the map and the budget needs one sane line item.

Beautiful course with great scenery and well kept fairways. Very wooded which makes for a tight and somewhat challenging course. Thick ruff (play with balls you won't mind losing). Unfortunately there is no driving range, they have a small cage and a decent putting green. Overall

Must play
Bethpage Black
Bethpage Black is the headline and the filter.

Must play
Bethpage Red
Red is not the consolation prize.
Strong play
Bethpage Blue
Blue is the practical third Bethpage course.

Strong play
Bethpage Green
Green is useful, not essential.

Strong play
Bethpage Yellow
Yellow is the safety valve.

Strong play
Pound Ridge Golf Club
Pound Ridge is the right Westchester splurge if the group cares about architecture.

Strong play
Bally's Golf Links at Ferry Point
Ferry Point is a very New York golf product: dramatic, expensive, slightly overhyped, and still worth playing once if the skyline matters
Strong play
Montauk Downs State Park
Montauk Downs is excellent in the right trip and annoying in the wrong one.
